Job description

Ravine Way Surgery Center is an Ambulatory Surgery Center located in Glenview, Illinois. We specialize in Orthopedics and are currently seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist to join our team. We have a variety of schedules available, and there are no weekends required.

The surgical technologist handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures. He/she understands the procedures being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during operations and maintains a sterile field vigilantly.

Responsibilities and Duties

Preoperative duties:

• Dons OR attire and PPE.
• Gathers, checks, and opens supplies and equipment for the procedure.
• Performs surgical scrub and dons gown and gloves.
• Sets up sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions.
• Assists team members with gowning and gloving.
• Assists with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field.
• Participates in surgical site and patient verification during the timeout procedure.
• Secures tubing, cords, and accessories.

Intraoperative duties:

• Prepares and anticipates additional instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.
• Passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedure.
• Labels, measures, and passes medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions.
• Holds retractors or instruments as directed.
• Sponges or suctions the operative site.
• Applies electrocautery to clamps on bleeders.
• Cuts suture material as directed.
• Maintains sterile technique throughout the procedure.
• Performs instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator before and after the operation, as needed.
• Prepares sterile dressings and immobilization devices.
• Prepares and passes off specimens appropriately.

Central Supply duties:

• Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization.
• Practices principles of sterilization, universal precautions, and hazardous material management.
• Documents biological indicators for sterilization.
• Maintains proper instrument sets, storage, and inventory levels.
• Sets up surgical trays and wraps them for sterilization.

Additional Duties:

• Performs related duties as assigned.

Skills/Education/Experience:

• Surgical Technologist certification strongly preferred.
• Minimum of two years experience in an OR or ASC required.
