Major Responsibilities:
  1. Performs duties in the scrub role as assigned.
  2. Prepares sterile field in a timely manner.
  3. Complies with departmental policies regarding specimens, counts, and contaminated instruments.
  4. Maintains sterile field and boundaries during procedures.
  5. Acts as preceptor, sharing knowledge supportively.
  6. Assists in emergency situations.
  7. Maintains a safe work environment per regulatory standards.
  8. Maintains educational records and hours electronically.
  9. Maintains competencies and on-call availability.
  10. Prepares surgical field and supplies/instruments as per physician preferences.
  11. Verifies instruments, supplies, and equipment readiness.
  12. Assists with opening sterile supplies and instruments.
  13. Assists with clean-up and turnover after cases.
  14. Uses supplies efficiently to reduce waste and costs.
  15. Operates sterilizers appropriately, understanding sterilization methods.
  16. Returns unused supplies to proper storage.
  17. Assists in stocking rooms.
  18. Collaborates with healthcare team to foster a cooperative environment.
  19. Supports hospital policies and maintains patient confidentiality.
  20. Participates in professional growth activities and committees.
Education/Experience Required:

High school diploma or GED; completion of Surgical Technology or Military program.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Good communication skills, ability to perform scrub duties independently, CPR certification, Surgical Technologist certification.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to stand long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, work in stressful environments, and work shifts including weekends and holidays. Must recognize needs of different patient age groups and use patient handling equipment when necessary.
