Boone Memorial Health is seeking a skilled Surgical Technician to join our surgical services team on a per diem basis. This position plays a critical role in supporting safe, efficient surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, assisting the surgical team, and maintaining a sterile environment throughout each case.

Boone Memorial Health (BMH) is a growing, rural Critical Access Health System located in Madison, West Virginia. At the core of our system is a 25-bed inpatient hospital with a 24/7 Emergency Department, which is designated as a Level IV Trauma Center. We are committed to delivering high-quality care to our community, ensuring patients have access to essential services without needing to leave the region.

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Certification as a surgical technologist preferred, or similar experience in practical nursing or operating room procedures
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Familiarity with sterile techniques and surgical safety protocols
  
  

Preferred:

• 1–2 years of recent experience working in a surgical setting
  
  

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical instruments and equipment prior to each procedure
• Sterilize and organize tools, maintaining a sterile field at all times
• Assist surgeons by handing instruments and supplies as needed
• Monitor counts of instruments and supplies before and after procedures
• Assist in prepping patients for surgery and supporting post-operative care
• Communicate effectively with the surgical team and other hospital departments
• Maintain inventory and report supply needs

• An effective Surgical Technician must have good listening skills in order to comprehend and quickly respond to the needs of the surgical team during a procedure.
• A good memory is necessary in order to avoid the repetition of lengthy explanations for tasks that need to be completed.
• A Surgical Technician will need physical endurance to stand for long periods of time.
• A successful Surgical Technician must be comfortable working under pressure

Required Education And Experience

• High school diploma or GED equivalent

• Ability to interact comfortably with a high volume of patients, families, and staff in a stressful environment
• Demonstrated knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment and supplies located in the operating room
