Certified Surgical Technician (Must have Certification) - Operating Room - Per Diem - Variable

Under the general supervision of the nurse manager or designee, the Surgical Technician, renders direct patient care according to the age and developmental level of the patient in accordance with the Code of Ethics for Nurses, ANA Standards of Care and the mission, philosophy, policies and procedures of Mohawk Valley Health System.

Core Job Responsibilities
  • Follow proper protocols and procedures for sharps, specimans and aseptic techniques during procedures.
  • Labels medications on the sterile field
  • Verifies operative procedure and site with patient and surgical team prior to commencement of procedure.
  • Coordinate and demonstrate the proper use and handling of supplies, instruments and equipment
  • Maintain an accurate instrument/sponge count
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments
  • Render safe and appropriate care for patients during positioning and transferring using appropriate positioning devices
  • Recognizes emergent patient care situations and reports findings
  • Promotes and maintains overall cleanliness of the unit
  • Adheres to Infection Control program to prevent spread of infections, practice of standard precautions, protects self, peers, patients, and visitors from infection and uses appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma
  • 1 year of healthcare experience

PREFERRED:

Completion of an approved Surgical Technician training program
