Qualifications

• Technical School graduate of Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program.
• Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences.
• 0-2 years of operating room surgical technician experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room by ensuring instruments, equipment and supplies are ready for procedures.
• Maintains a sterile field throughout surgeries using sterile technique and universal precautions.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and passes instruments efficiently during procedures.
• Handles instruments and equipment per manufacturer instructions and hospital policy, including cleaning and sterilization.
• Performs counts of sponges, needles and instruments with the circulating nurse for patient safety.
• Assists with patient positioning, draping and transfer under RN direction.
