Job summary

Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West, FL is seeking a Certified Surgical Technician to join the operating room team. The technician will prepare and maintain the sterile field, anticipate needs, and assist with instrument handling and room readiness to ensure safe, efficient procedures.

Responsibilities include setup, sterile technique, instrument passing, sponge counts, patient positioning support, and maintenance of physician preference cards.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of operating room surgical technician experience.
• Technical School graduate of Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program or.
• Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room with instruments, equipment and supplies per procedure and physician preference card.
• Maintains a sterile field and follows Universal Precautions and aseptic technique.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and passes instruments and supplies accurately during procedures.
• Handles instruments per manufacturer instructions and hospital policy, including inspection and sterilization.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts with circulating nurse for patient safety.
• Assists with patient positioning, draping, and transfer under RN direction to ensure safety.
