Job summary

St. Luke's University Health Network is seeking a Surgical Tech to support the operating room team. The role involves setting up sterile fields, passing instruments, and maintaining strict sterile technique throughout procedures in a fast-paced environment.

The position requires NJ/PA certifications upon hire (new grads must obtain within six months). On-the-job training is provided, with emphasis on patient safety and teamwork within the surgical services department.

Qualifications

• Certification required upon hire in NJ.
• Certification required upon hire in PA, unless new graduate.
• New graduates must obtain a certificate within six months of hiring.
• Acceptable certifications include NCCT (1 year renewal) OR NBSTSA (2 year renewal).
• On-the-job training: minimum of 1.5 years with 8 weeks orientation.

Responsibilities

• Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure.
• Scrubs, gowns, and gloves for self and team.
• Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions for procedure.
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision.
• Assists with draping sterile field.
• Passes instruments, retractors and sutures to surgeon during procedure.
• Demonstrates ability to anticipate needs of the surgical team.
• Maintains sterile technique during procedure.
• Handles surgical specimens appropriately and safely.
• Handles sharps and medications following OR safety policies.
