Job summary

Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, ID, is seeking a full-time Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) for the Main Operating Room in a Level II Trauma Center. The position may include Sign-On and Relocation Incentives.

The CST will assist in various service lines including Orthopedics, Neuro, General, and Urology, with day shift options and on-call duties. On-call spans two to four 12-hour weekend shifts every six weeks; weekday calls are not required.

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by NBSTSA or TS-C by NCCT is required.
• Basic Life Support for healthcare providers (AHA/ARC/Military) is required at hire.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of cautery safety and proper grounding during procedures.
• Recognizes breaks in aseptic technique and takes corrective action.
• Performs equipment checks to ensure proper functioning.
• Updates and reviews surgeon preference cards.
• Gowns and gloving for perioperative team and self.
• Independently functions in at least one other specialty area.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and communicates with RN Circulator to obtain resources.
• Manages instrument, sponge and sharp counts for all procedures in specialty areas.
• Sets up a room with equipment under RN supervision or direction.
• Troubleshoots equipment within own specialty to resolution.

Description: Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center is seeking a full-time Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) for our Main Operating Room in Boise! This site is a Level II Trauma Center, offering definitive care for critically injured patients throughout the region.

Position may be eligible Sign-On and Relocation Incentives.

Position Highlights and Benefits

• Schedule Information: This is a full-time benefited position working on day shift (4-10s: 7am-5:30pm or 3-12s: 7am-7:30pm). Department orientation typically features 5 8-hour shifts to start.
• On Call Requirements: Main OR CSTs are on-call for two to four 12-hour weekend call shifts every 6-week period and are required to meet a 30-minute response time if called in. Weekday call (Monday-Friday) is not required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the NBSTSA or as a Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) by the NCCT required.
• Basic Life Support for healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire.

What You Will Do

• Demonstrates knowledge of cautery safety (grounding pad and cautery use during procedure).
• Recognizes breaks in aseptic technique and takes immediate corrective action.
• Demonstrates equipment checks to assure proper functioning.
• Updates and reviews surgeon preference cards.
• Able to gown and glove other members of the perioperative 'sterile' team.
• Able to gown and glove self through use of closed and open method.
• Able to independently function in at least one other specialty area.
• Anticipates and prioritizes surgeon needs. Communicates with RN Circulator to obtain needed resources. LPNs may function under the Nurse Practice Action with RN supervision.
• Responsible for technical equipment and supplies (e.g., inventory, usage, organization, maintenance in own specialty area).
• Trouble-shoots equipment within own specialty to bring to resolution.
• Independently manages instrument, sponge and sharp counts for all procedures in specialty areas and all procedures assigned outside of specialty.
• Assists and/or follows direction of the RN Circulator to set up a room and obtain equipment, etc.
