Providence Medical Center in Weslaco, TX, is seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CFSA) for Labor and Delivery. This full-time night-shift role supports surgeons in the OR, prepares patients, maintains sterile fields, and assists with instruments throughout procedures.

The position requires OR scrub experience, certification, and proficiency in key surgical specialties, with opportunities to contribute to high-quality maternal care within a dedicated team.

Qualifications

• Certification in Surgical Technology or Certified First Assistant is required.
• Completion of an approved First Assistant training program.
• Five years of acute care OR scrub experience preferred.
• Proficiency in major surgical specialties: Vascular, Thoracic, Open Heart, Orthopedics, OB/GYN, General.
• Current BLS certification by the American Heart Association.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• The CST/First Assistant reports to the Clinical Supervisor Surgical Services in the Surgery department/unit.
• Support a 24/7 high touch, high tech, efficient environment for elective, urgent or emergent surgical intervention.
• Collaborate with leadership at all levels to achieve organizational goals.

Certified Surgical First Assistant (CFSA) - Labor and Delivery

Location: Knapp Medical Center - Weslaco, TX

Full-Time | Nights | 12 - Hour Shifts

The Certified Surgical First Assistant (CFSA) works directly alongside the surgeon in the operating room, helping position and prep the patient, maintaining the sterile field, and assisting with instruments throughout the procedure. First Assistant’s actively participate in surgery by providing exposure, controlling bleeding, suturing, closing incisions, and anticipating the surgeon’s needs to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care.

• The position of CST/First Assistant reports to the Clinical Supervisor Surgical Services in the Surgery department/unit at Providence Medical Center.
• The mission of the Surgery Department is to provide a 24/7 high touch, high tech and efficient environment for our patients requiring elective, urgent or emergent surgical intervention.
• The Clinical Supervisor Surgery supports this mission by providing leadership in all aspects of operations and collaborating with all levels of leadership to achieve organizational goals.

Qualifications

• Certification in Surgical Technology/Certified First Assistant.
• Successful completion of a training program in a recognized First Assistant program.
• Five years’ experience in an acute care operating room in the scrub role, preferred.
• Must be proficient in the following specialties: Major Vascular, Thoracic, Open Heart, Orthopedics, OB/GYN, General
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider affirmation by American Heart Association.
• Basic computer skills.
