Job summary

Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown in Nashville, TN, is seeking an OR Surgical Assistant to support the surgeon during complex procedures and manage intraoperative tasks. This full-time role includes a $12,000 sign-on bonus and a schedule of days.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 30 days of hire date required.
• Certified First Surgical Assistant obtained prior to hire date; earlier hires exempt if before 5/30/21.
• NBSTA/ABSA or National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants accepted for certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level intraoperative assistance including tissue manipulation, retraction, and suctioning.
• Own the rhythm of the OR by customizing the suite to surgeon preferences and ensuring sterile turnovers.
• Manage patient positioning and equipment to ensure optimal surgical exposure with dignity and comfort.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Elite Surgical Partnership: Serve as a seamless extension of the surgeon’s hands. During complex procedures, you will provide high-level assistance—including tissue manipulation, retraction, and advanced suctioning—acting as a critical pillar of the intraoperative team.

• Operational Excellence: Own the rhythm of the OR. From customizing the suite to meet specific surgeon preferences to managing streamlined, sterile turnarounds, your precision ensures we are always ready for the next life-changing case.

What minimum requirements you’ll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

• Certified First Surgical Assistant obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Hired/transferred before 5/30/21 not required to hold certification. Accepted: National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting; American Board of Surgical Assistants; or National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

What additional preferences we're seeking

• Schedule will include 2 x 8's and 2 x 12's
