Job summary

Alameda Health System is seeking a Central Sterile Processing Technician to coordinate cleaning, decontamination, assembly and dispensing of surgical instruments for daily procedures. Requires CS/SPD certification and at least one year of instrument processing experience.

The role collaborates with department leadership, operates with strong self-direction, and supports in-services and training as needed. Works under supervision to ensure supply chain and patient care standards are met.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• One year of instrument processing experience.
• CS/SPD Certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assists supervisor in storage and allocation of department space for efficiency.
• Attends in-service presentations and completes mandatory education including infection control, patient safety, quality improvement, MSDS and OSHA standards.
• Coaches and works with department members to improve overall quality and productivity.
• Ensures Central Sterile meets Surgery Department demands for instruments, equipment and supplies.
• Evaluates thoroughness of tray assembly and processing through tray audits.
• Follows guidelines for occurrence reporting and reporting medical error or unanticipated outcomes.
• Maintains collaborative relationships with other departments to ensure flow and continuity of services.
• Monitors and maintains records to remain compliant with regulatory agencies, reporting occurrences to supervisors.
• Monitors and/or initiates repairs and replacement orders for essential instrumentation and accessories.
• Monitors surgery schedules daily, identifying needs for all cases.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
