Job summary

Texas Health Mansfield is seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician to join our operating team. You will maintain records, operate sterilization equipment, decontaminate instruments, and ensure instruments are ready for case carts and surgical teams.

The role requires CRCST/CSPDT certification, 1+ year in sterile processing, and strong knowledge of infection control. Shift is 1pm-9:30pm, full-time, with benefits including PTO from day one and a focus on safety, quality, and continuous

Qualifications

• 1+ year of sterile processing experience.
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or CSPDT preferred.
• Proficient in infection control practices and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate records of sterilization activities and inventory levels.
• Operate sterilization equipment and inspect instruments for cleanliness and function.
• Decontaminate soiled instruments and ensure proper instrument counts.
• Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure timely availability of sterilized equipment.
• Train new staff on sterilization procedures and protocols.

Job Description

• Shift: 1pm - 9:30pm
• Maintains accurate records of sterilization activities and inventory levels.
• Operates sterilization equipment and inspects instruments, equipment, and containers to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning.
• Performs decontamination of soiled instruments, sterilization containers, and equipment according to instructions for use (IFUs) and established protocols.
• Corrects instrument sets according to current standards, established count sheets, and/or instrument tracking systems.
• Maintains proper levels of inventory to ensure availability for case carts.
• Performs regular quality assurance program audits of peers.
• Collaborates with the surgical team to ensure timely availability of sterilized instruments and equipment.
• Monitors and documents sterilization processes to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Troubleshoots and resolves issues with sterilization equipment and processes.
• Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance sterilization processes.
• Trains new staff on sterilization procedures and protocols.
• Ensures proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must be proficient in the English language. [Required]

• Basic Computer skills [Required]
• Successful completion of an accredited school of Sterile Processing or Surgical Technology [Required]
• Ability to communicate effectively. [Required]
• Knowledge of prevention of cross-contamination and the critical nature of nosocomial infections. [Required]
• Proficient use of all equipment. [Required]
• Ability to adapt to change and work in an environment that requires flexibility and dependability. [Required]
• Ability to lead others and work under stress and tight deadlines. [Required]

Education

• Associate [Preferred]
• High School Grad or Equiv or Technical/Vocational School [Required]

Work Experience

• 1+Sterile Processing experience [Required]

Licenses and Certifications

• Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST) [Required]
• Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) [Required]
• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Preferred]
