Job summary

UnityPoint Health in West Des Moines is looking for a Certified Sterile Processing Technician I to clean, decontaminate, assemble, sterilize and distribute surgical instruments, supporting safe patient care. The position requires a high school diploma and a clear pathway to CSPT certification, with opportunities for learning and growth within the Sterile Processing Department.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of sterile processing experience preferred.
• Must be certified within two years of hire: HSPA CSPT, CBSPD CST, NBSTSA CST, or NCCT CST.
• IA/IL mandatory reporter trainings for abuse as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Reprocess surgical instruments and equipment through decontamination, cleaning, assembly, inspection, sterilization, and storage.
• Configure decontamination and sterilization equipment; verify tray content and remove defective items.
• Maintain clean, organized work areas and deliver sterile supplies to storage locations.
• Monitor equipment performance; perform routine testing and maintenance for reliability.
• Document each step of the reprocessing cycle for traceability and regulatory compliance.
• Stay current on infection prevention standards and organizational policies.
