Job summary

Duke University Health System in Durham, NC seeks a Central Sterile Processing Technician, Certified, to perform cleaning, decontamination, assembly, and high-level disinfection of reusable medical instrumentation. The role interfaces with OR and Sterile Processing and ensures supply readiness for the daily surgical schedule.

Education requires CSPDT (CBSPD) or CRCST (HSPA) certification; high school diploma or equivalent is also required.

Qualifications

• Certification CSPDT (CBSPD) or CRCST (HSPA) required.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, decontaminates, assembles, and disinfects scope trays and equipment following established tray lists and manufacturers' recommendations.
• Maintains communication with customers and departments regarding requests and delivery of sterile supplies.
• Promotes best practice by demonstrating a commitment to quality patient care.
• Performs duties to maintain unit in survey readiness and support quality initiatives (e.g., quality control, emergency equipment checks, department cleanliness).
• Uses the computerized instrument tracking system, retrieves instrument count sheets, and documents sterilization loads and handling instructions.
• Maintains a clean and orderly central processing area and supports teaching of new hires as needed.
