The School Nurse is a key leader in fostering a healthy, safe, and supportive learning environment for all students. We are seeking an individual who is not only skilled in nursing but also possesses the ability to lead with empathy, integrity, and collaboration. In this role, you will lead by example, advocating for the health and well-being of students, while working closely with educators, administrators, and families to ensure that every child has access to the care they need to thrive academically and socially.
Your leadership will extend beyond providing essential health services. You will take an active role in promoting health education, prevention, and wellness programs that empower both students and staff. By supporting students with medical needs, you will demonstrate your commitment to helping each child succeed in a nurturing and safe school environment.
The School Nurse must perform all responsibilities in a professional manner consistent with district policy and practices, maintain student health records, write and maintain health plans and medical 504's, and provide educational evaluation and instructional judgment for students being evaluated or reevaluated for special education services.
Qualifications/Skills:
Current State of Illinois School Nurse PEL required or completion of the IEP Designation Course provided by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Experience within a school health service office with students with a variety of medical needs.
Ability to work closely with other staff members.
Must possess the physical strength to occasionally assist in lifting students and be able to bend and perform CPR as needed.
Current Illinois State licensure required.
Current CPR certification required.
Must respect the confidentiality of sensitive information.
Strong computer skills.
Must be detail-oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate with diverse individuals.
Excellent time management skills.
Ability to work efficiently under minimum supervision.
Ability to problem-solve complex and crisis situations.
