Description

To coordinate a school health program including the delivery of services to students and staff members in order to enhance health and wellness in the school community. Duties are to be performed in accordance with standards of professional school nurse practice, district/state board of education policies and procedures, and Illinois State law regarding nurse practice.

2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR

To coordinate a school health program including the delivery of services to students and staff members in order to enhance health and wellness in the school community. Duties are to be performed in accordance with standards of professional school nurse practice, district/state board of education policies and procedures, and Illinois State law regarding nurse practice.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Pick up district issued computer in August 2025.
  • Attend Induction Academy I for teachers new to D300 August 2025.
  • Provide direct professional nursing services, including first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff, along with nursing assessment, identifying health problems, making referrals, recommending educational modifications, providing follow-up and evaluation, and maintaining documentation.
  • Develop a medication protocol to safely store, administer, document, and monitor medication effectiveness at school.
  • Provide screening and follow-up for vision, hearing, growth, development, and other physical deficits.
  • Maintain accurate medical records to ensure compliance with state mandates, including immunizations, physical exams, and medical conditions.
  • Participate as a crisis team member and provide crisis intervention for students and staff in case of sudden illness or injury.
  • Assess and refer suspected abuse/neglect cases as a mandated reporter.
  • Conduct staff in-service programs on health topics such as blood borne pathogens and the district exposure control plan.
  • Maintain communication with administrators, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to support cooperative actions for students' health and safety.
  • Act as a liaison between home, school, community health agencies, and private medical sector to promote health and wellness.
  • Keep confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams for student evaluation and placement in special education programs and contribute to the health component of Individual Education Plans.
  • Develop and maintain health care plans for students needing special nursing interventions during the school day.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse licensure in Illinois with Illinois ISBE Professional Educator License (PEL) - School Nurse endorsement.
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certification.
  • Illinois State Board of Education licensure (school nurse).
  • Preferred: Illinois certification as a Vision and Hearing Screening technician.
  • Prior professional nursing experience, preferably in pediatric, adolescent, community, or mental health nursing, and health program management.
