7 attending Anesthesiologists:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Makes pre-operative evaluations on all patients assigned to his/her care. Studies chart for results of history and physical, medical consults, and pre-operative tests, to determine probable effects of anesthesia on the patient, and takes appropriate actions to correct abnormalities if possible. Initiates EKG, blood pressure, and pulse oximeter monitors prior to induction.
- Assists in positioning the patient on the operating table, taking care to protect the patient from injury.
- Induces anesthesia under the direction of the attending surgeon.
- Administers anesthesia under the supervision of an anesthesiologist in collaboration with the surgeon. Supports vital functions during anesthesia, including induction and intubation. Maintains anesthesia at appropriate levels. Administers no more than one anesthetic at a time.
- Provides pre-anesthesia and post-anesthesia management of the patient.
- Recognizes abnormal patient responses to anesthesia or adjunctive therapies and takes corrective actions, including consulting specialists when necessary. Provides professional observation and resuscitative care until the patient regains control of vital functions. Performs emergency procedures such as intubation, inhalation therapy, and CPR as needed.
- Records all pertinent data on the anesthesia record. Communicates patient's condition and any anticipated issues to the PACU nurse and keeps the surgeon informed at all times.
- Follows infection control guidelines and reports safety hazards promptly.
- Prepares and tests equipment and supplies needed for anesthesia. Disassembles and cleans equipment according to department policies. Requisitions necessary supplies and repairs. Maintains vigilance for safety at all times.
- Performs additional duties as assigned. Under the supervision of anesthesiologists, assesses, plans, coordinates, and evaluates patient care involving anesthesia.
Education:
- Master's degree or higher with advanced certifications.
Experience:
- Preference for candidates with at least one year of anesthesia experience; new graduates are welcome.
