Job summary

THREE RIVERS YOUTH in Pittsburgh, PA seeks a Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) Supervisor to supervise CRS and peer staff, ensuring recovery-focused services meet policies, regulations, and best practices while supporting staff development and quality improvement.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years in peer recovery or related behavioral health roles, supervisory experience, and CRS credentials; CPR/First Aid and Naloxone training are required, with occasional travel within the service

Qualifications

• Minimum three (3) years of experience providing peer recovery and related behavioral health services.
• Minimum two (2) years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

• CPR and First Aid Certification within 90 days of hire; Naloxone training.

Position Summary

The Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) Supervisor provides direct supervision, guidance, and leadership to Certified Recovery Specialists and peer support staff. The supervisor ensures high-quality, recovery-oriented services are delivered in accordance with organizational policies, state regulations, certification standards, and best practices. This role supports staff development, program compliance, quality improvement initiatives, and the achievement of positive recovery outcomes for individuals and families impacted by substance use and co-occurring disorders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Supervision and Staff Development

• Provide ongoing supervision, coaching, mentoring, and support to Certified Recovery Specialists and peer support staff.
• Conduct regular supervision meetings, performance evaluations, and competency assessments.
• Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention efforts.
• Develop corrective action plans and performance improvement strategies as needed.
• Ensure staff maintain required certifications and continuing education requirements.

Program Leadership

• Oversee daily operations of recovery support services.
• Ensure services align with recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and person-centered care principles.
• Monitor caseloads, service delivery, and staff productivity.
• Review documentation for quality, compliance, and timeliness.
• Participate in program development, quality assurance, and outcome measurement activities.

Client Support Services

• Provide direct recovery support services and crisis intervention when necessary.
• Support individuals in developing recovery goals and connecting with community resources.
• Promote self-advocacy, resilience, and long-term recovery planning.
• Collaborate with treatment providers, care managers, and community stakeholders.

Compliance and Quality Assurance

• Ensure compliance with state, federal, payer, and accreditation requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA regulations.
• Monitor documentation and service delivery standards.
• Participate in audits, accreditation reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.

Community Engagement

• Build partnerships with treatment providers, healthcare systems, criminal justice agencies, and recovery organizations.
• Represent the organization in community coalitions, meetings, and public events.

Promote recovery support services through outreach and education activities.

Qualifications: Education

Master's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Behavioral Health, or related field preferred.

Experience

• Minimum three (3) years of experience providing peer recovery support services, substance use disorder services, behavioral health services, or related human service programs.
• Minimum two (2) years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

Required Certifications

The successful candidate must possess and maintain:

• Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) credential in good standing through the applicable state credentialing body.
• Certified Supervisor Credential (if required by state regulations), or obtain within a specified timeframe after hire.
• CPR and First Aid Certification within 90 days of hire.
• Naloxone Administration Training and overdose response certification.
• Completion of all state-required peer recovery continuing education requirements.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record, if travel is required.

Preferred Certifications

• Certified Recovery Specialist Supervisor (CRSS) or equivalent supervisory credential where applicable.
• Certified Peer Specialist (CPS).
• Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC).
• Motivational Interviewing training.
• Trauma-Informed Care certification.
• Mental Health First Aid certification.
• Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of substance use disorders, recovery pathways, and peer support models.
• Understanding of medication-assisted treatment (MAT), harm reduction, and recovery-oriented systems of care.
• Ability to supervise, coach, and develop staff.
• Strong crisis intervention and conflict-resolution skills.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, confidentiality requirements, and professional ethics.
• Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency with electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to travel throughout the service area.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
• Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
