Job summary

Eagleville Hospital in Eagleville, PA is looking for a Certified Recovery Specialist to provide recovery-support services and advocate for consumers in the recovery process. You will use your personal recovery experience to engage with individuals facing addiction and mental health challenges.

You will work closely with treatment teams, conduct group sessions, and help participants develop relapse-prevention plans while upholding confidentiality and professional standards.

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a current Certified Recovery Specialist credential.
  • Knowledge of addiction as a primary disease and 12-Step Recovery Program and working with a Co-occurring population is required.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to supervise large groups of individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide recovery support services as a consumer advocate and assist consumers in regaining control over their lives.
  • Interact directly with consumers, both individually and in groups, to build trust and provide hope.
  • Assist consumers in developing recovery plans, empowerment skills, and self-advocacy while monitoring progress toward goals.
  • Respond to mental health crises on units (Code White) and help with de-escalation and debriefing of clients and staff.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and communicate consumer needs to the team as appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written consumer information.
  • Organize and chair regularly scheduled 12-step meetings and conduct patient orientation groups.

Certified Recovery Specialist Summary

The Certified Recovery Specialist is responsible for providing recovery support services. This will be done by serving as a consumer advocate, providing information and support for consumers, and assisting consumers in regaining control over their lives through the recovery process. The Certified Recovery Specialist will utilize his/her own personal experiences as part of engaging with and assisting consumers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Teach and role model the value and uniqueness of every individual’s recovery by utilizing one’s own experience with recovery from substance abuse.
  2. Promote the idea and concept of recovery for consumers with both addiction and mental health issues.
  3. Model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies by serving as a role model.
  4. Interact directly with consumers, both individually and in groups. This will provide a basis for building trust with consumers and providing hope.
  5. Provide social interaction with consumers to assist with the development of social skills, improved communication skills, and development of healthy coping skills
  6. Assist consumers with developing insight into their illness and understanding their experience with mental illness.
  7. Assist consumers in learning to identify individual warning signs and developing ways to prevent relapse and deter hospitalizations.
  8. Utilize and teach problem solving techniques.
  9. Teach self-help skills.
  10. Help consumers in developing support systems, and provide education and assistance with peer support and/or self-help groups in the community.
  11. Assist consumers in developing empowerment skills through self-advocacy and stigma busting.
  12. Assist consumers in developing skills in combating negative self-talk.
  13. Assist consumers in developing a personal recovery plan by developing recovery goals, obtaining their recovery goals, and monitoring progress towards achievement of goals. This will include assisting consumers in identifying steps they need to take to reach these goals.
  14. Respond to mental health crisis on units (Code White) and help with de-escalation and debriefing of clients and staff
  15. Participate in treatment team meetings regularly regarding advocacy for a patient and participant identification. Also communicate consumer needs as appropriate as part of the treatment team.
  16. Ensure confidentiality of verbal and written consumer information.
  17. Assist non-consumer staff in identifying and supporting program environments and tools that are conducive to recovery. Participate as member of the clinical team and communicate consumer needs to treatment team as necessary.
  18. Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and developments in the mental health field generally, and in the Montgomery County mental health system specifically, by reading newsletters, journals, and other relevant material, as well as attending area meetings.
  19. Participate in and assist in supervision of weekend activities
  20. Organize and chair regularly scheduled 12 step meetings
  21. Conduct patient orientation groups as assigned
  22. Regularly conduct brief check ins with program participants
  23. Be a presence during speaking engagements and community connections
  24. Meet with new participants as soon as possible to orient them on services

Qualifications

Experience in psychiatric unit or facility a plus but not necessary. Must have ability to communicate well, both orally and written, and ability to work within a team structure.

Physical Requirements

Able to sit, stand, bend, lift 20 pounds maximum, interact with clientele who may become aggressive.
