Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Certified Recovery Coach (CRC) to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team in Washington, D.C. In this role, you will use your lived experience of mental health and/or substance use recovery to provide individualized, person-centered support to adults with serious mental illness (SMI) in community settings.

As a full member of the ACT team, you will promote hope, empowerment, and wellness by helping clients achieve stability and independence in alignment with D.C. Municipal Regulation 22-A DCMR §3426, governing ACT service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a core member of the ACT multidisciplinary team, offering peer-based support services in coordination with clinical staff.
  • Use lived experience of recovery to build trust, reduce stigma, and model healthy coping skills.
  • Assist clients in setting and achieving person-centered recovery goals, such as employment, housing, social connection, or medication adherence.
  • Provide community-based outreach (homes, shelters, community spaces) to meet clients where they are.
  • Support clients in navigating mental health, substance use, medical, housing, and benefits systems.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate peer-led groups and wellness activities.
  • Contribute to treatment planning, team meetings, and ongoing assessments.
  • Accurately document services in accordance with agency policy and DBH standards.
  • Uphold client rights, confidentiality, and ethical peer support boundaries.
Qualifications
  • Certified Recovery Coach (CRC) credential approved by the D.C. Department of Behavioral Health (DBH).
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education preferred.
  • Personal experience with recovery from a mental health condition and/or substance use disorder is required.
  • Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to work in the community (travel is required).
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and recovery principles.
  • Must meet ACT staffing standards per 22-A DCMR §3426(f).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working on an ACT team or with individuals with SMI.
  • Familiarity with Washington, D.C. community resources.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills a plus.
