Job summary

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Orange County seeks a Certified Phlebotomy Technician to join our laboratory team. The CPT collects, receives, processes and distributes specimens and performs patient phlebotomy across multiple locations, ensuring accurate labeling and proper safety practices.

The successful candidate maintains aseptic technique, communicates results clearly, and stays current with department policies, SOPs and error-tracking documentation.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• One year of healthcare experience preferred.
• Current California CPT I certification required.

Responsibilities

• Collect, receive, process and distribute laboratory specimens.
• Perform patient phlebotomy at different locations.
• Communicate test results inter- and intra-department as needed.
• Maintain equipment and supply par levels.
• Maintain aseptic techniques when collecting specimens and use appropriate technique when drawing blood.
• Label specimens immediately after collection.
• Dispose used needles and supplies in suitable containers.
• Maintain knowledge of departmental SOPs, safety and computer functions related to orders and receipt of specimens.
• Project professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct.
• Maintain current knowledge of departmental updates, policies and procedures.
• Resolve problems with documentation in the laboratory’s error tracking system.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
