Job summary

Desert Valley Hospital in Southern California seeks a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I to collect blood samples across all ages and manage associated clerical tasks under supervision. You will perform skin punctures or venipunctures, ensure accurate data entry, and help maintain laboratory operations and supplies.

The role is per diem with variable shifts, and requires CA CPT I licensure, BLS within 45 days, and preferably 1 year of clinical lab experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Formal phlebotomy training or documented competency required.
• Active California CPT I license required.
• BLS within 45 days and maintained per hospital policy.
• Minimum of one year clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages.
• Enter data, file records, and communicate with patients and staff.
• Demonstrate proper phlebotomy technique across age groups.
• Process specimens and maintain lab area cleanliness.
• Assist with specimen handling, supplies, and routine tasks as needed.

Education

High School Diploma, or equivalent

Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program or equivalent on-the-job training

Active California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I license

BLS certification within forty-five days of hire
