Job summary

Eisenhower Health Careers in the Coachella Valley is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform phlebotomy and specimen processing. You will ensure accurate registration, processing of specimens, and proper test ordering while maintaining a welcoming environment for patients.

Required education includes a high school diploma or GED; California CPT licensure is preferred. This is a day shift, full-time role with 40 hours per week and ongoing CPT training responsibilities.

Maintains adequate supplies and participates in interdepartmental communication.

• 1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
• 2. Properly identifies patient using two identifiers and collects specimens by venipuncture, heelstick, or fingerstick per established protocol.
• 3. Orders and processes laboratory requests in accordance with established procedures to assure timely and accurate collection and reporting priorities.
• 4. Adheres to HIPAA standards when using, disclosing or requesting protected health information.
• 5. Collects and processes all necessary paperwork, assuring appropriate billing and reporting by courier, fax, or laboratory printer.
• 6. Utilizes time productively: maintains cleanliness (including disinfecting work area), reorders and restocks supplies and assists co-workers with tasks.
• 7. Follows established protocol for laboratory encounters.
• 8. Researches specimen problems with resolution and appropriate documentation.
• 9. Accesses, interprets, and acts on shift/daily follow-up tasks to ensure that all specimens have been processed and in a timely manner.
• 10. Processes, audits, and orders body fluids correctly for inpatient and outpatient specimens.
• 11. Consults with professional Clinical Laboratory Scientist staff regarding problems.
• 12. Works closely with nurses and physicians to ensure that ambiguous or unusual test requests are handled appropriately.
• 13. Centrifuges and prepares specimens for transport; creates/receives packing lists as needed.
• 14. Handles laboratory results, reports, shipping documents appropriately.
• 15. Acts as a liaison for the laboratory to all other departments, staff, patients, and visitors.
• 16. Answers telephone; responds to questions or directs calls to appropriate individual.
• 17. Completes monthly phlebotomy competencies in a timely manner; maintains compliance with all training modules.
• 18. Participates and assists in CPT student extern and MLS student training; assists in new CPT training.
• 19. Performs daily/weekly/monthly safety and maintenance logs.
• 20. Performs Laboratory and Emergency Department downtime procedures.
• 21. Performs other duties as assigned.
