Job summary

Torrance Memorial in Torrance, CA is seeking a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I under the general direction of the Supervisor of Inpatient Phlebotomy Services to perform blood collection and preparation for analysis. You will collect samples from adults, children, and infants, ensure proper labeling, adhere to infection control, and document results accurately using hospital systems.

This role emphasizes timely draws (including TC, Pre-OP, STAT) and participation in performance improvement

Qualifications

• Identifies, collects and labels blood specimens according to procedures.
• Performs venipuncture using various devices.
• Follows infection control guidelines: uses good handwashing technique, adheres to isolation policy, cleaning equipment between patients.
• Collects blood specimens from adult patients.
• Collects blood specimens from pediatric and infant patients.
• Maintains accurate clerical/documentation records.
• Uses SBAR for handoff communication when appropriate.
• Reviews department notifications and responds to emails.

Responsibilities

• Draws blood specimens and labels samples for analysis.
• Ensures specimen quality and reduces contamination risk.
• Performs up to 6 venipunctures per hour.
• Coordinates with Lab to ensure timely processing.
