Job summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Support Specialist who provides guidance and ancillary service for clinical activities, including specimen collection, processing, and reference lab work. The role supports phlebotomy in inpatient settings with rotating shifts and weekend coverage.

The position requires phlebotomy certification or extensive experience, strong English communication, and proficiency with EPIC and LIS systems.

Qualifications

Phlebotomy Certification or ten years of experience required.
3 years phlebotomy experience required as applicable.
Excellent English communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrates technical competency using hospital computer systems (EPIC, Sunquest LIS).
Ability to maintain confidentiality and balance multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

Performs venipunctures according to policies, including timed specimens and cultures.
Identifies patients and labels specimens per policy.
Prepares and processes specimens for analysis and testing.
Operates LIS functions and EPIC registration tasks.
Records temperatures and maintains equipment logs.
Assists in training lab staff and phlebotomy students.
Participates in quality improvement activities and problem resolution.
