Certified Pharmacy Technician PRN

USPI Arizona Specialty Hospital is a specialty inpatient hospital dedicated to orthopedic and spinal surgery. We employ a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) to support our pharmacy operations and ensure accurate medication management for patients.

Job Summary

The Certified Pharmacy Technician works directly under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to support the Pharmacy Department. Responsibilities include re‑stocking anesthesia drug boxes and floor stock in the OR, PACU, Pre‑op and PSU; unit dose packaging, charging, receiving and stocking; compounding sterile products; performing unit inspections; maintaining appropriate records; and assisting in related activities as directed by the Pharmacy Director/Pharmacist‑In‑Charge.

Qualifications
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) and registered with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Minimum 1 year inpatient hospital experience; sterile product compounding preferred.
  • Good organizational, problem‑solving and computer skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and other contacts.
  • Knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, Microsoft applications and Pyxis automated dispensing systems.
  • Understands basic pharmaceutical nomenclature.
  • Understands commonly used medical terminology and abbreviations.
  • Mathematical ability to calculate dosages and amounts required.
  • Able to interpret physician orders including directions for use, commonly used abbreviations and symbols, number of dosage units, strength and systems of measurement, route of administration, dosage forms, and frequency of administration.
  • Working knowledge of Pharmacy Medication References. Adheres to all DEA and Arizona State Board of Pharmacy Rules and procedures.
  • Documentation of patient medication history into electronic health record according to hospital guidelines and communication of outstanding issues/risk to physician, nurse or pharmacist.
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Current CPR and ACLS certified.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with patients, families, physicians and employees.
Required Experience & Skills
  • Graduate of an accredited school (if applicable).
  • Knowledgeable of hospital policies and procedures relevant to the pharmacy department.
  • Experience with pharmacy medication references and compliance with regulatory requirements.
