Job summary

Arizona Spine and Joint Hospital is seeking an experienced Pharmacy Technician to join our team on a PRN basis. The role involves rounds, medication delivery, inventory management, and processing physicians’ orders in a hospital setting.

The ideal candidate will hold a Pharmacy Technician License, current BLS/CPR, and demonstrate excellent communication skills with hospital experience. This position requires on-site work with a Friday 10-hour shift and benefits including 401k and sick time.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy Technician License is required.
• Current BLS/CPR certification required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Hospital experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Makes rounds and delivers labeled medications, controlled substances and pharmaceutical supplies.
• Monitors the documentation on the Controlled Substances Administration Log.
• Maintains inventory and monitors drug supply.
• Labels compounded and re-packaged medications and performs pharmaceutical calculations.
• Responds to inquiries by phone and directs questions to the appropriate personnel.
• Interprets physicians’ orders and enters them into the computer system.
• Generates labels and fills drug orders according to physicians’ orders.
• Assists with unit-dose packaging and accurate documentation of medications.
• Fills drug replacement orders and maintains par levels.
• Returns drug credits to stock and processes discharges when needed.
• Stocks shelves and notes expiring drugs or those needing ordering.
• Supports adherence to Pharmacy Department policies and procedures.
• Keeps work areas clean and well organized.
• Gains proficiency with the pharmacy computer system.

Responsibilities

• Makes rounds and delivers labeled medications, controlled substances and pharmaceutical supplies
• Monitors the accurate documentation on the Controlled Substances Administration Log on the patient care areas
• Monitors drug supply and maintains inventory
• Labeling of compounded and re-packaged medications
• Pharmaceutical calculations
• Answers telephone and provides information as requested or refers questions to appropriate personnel
• Interprets physicians’ orders and enters into the computer system
• Generates labels and fills drug orders according to physicians’ orders
• Refills medication carts with accuracy and exchanges medication cubicles as per schedule
• Responsible for unit-dose packaging the bulk medications into unit of use, and accurate documentation of the function
• Fills drug replacement orders to various departments accurately and maintains par levels
• Returns drug credits to pharmacy stock
• Assists in processing discharges and issuing credit, if necessary on all returned drugs
• Stocks shelves and notes any drugs that will be expiring or in need of ordering
• Assists with the initiation, development, maintenance, and execution of rules and regulations pertaining to the professional policies set by the Pharmacy Department
• Assists in keeping all work areas clean, neat, and orderly
• Attains/maintains knowledge of the pharmacy computer system from the standpoint of a user of the system
• Performs other related duties as assigned
