Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care – North Liberty Campus Pharmacy is seeking a Pharmacy Technician, Certified or Trainee, to perform drug distribution and control for outpatient and clinic dispensing under general supervision. 100% schedule at Medical Center North Liberty with a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities include inventory management, compounding preparation, equipment operation, and maintaining medication security.

Qualifications

• Ability to calculate ratios & proportions for pharmaceutical needs.
• Experience with inventory maintenance activities.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Experience with Windows-based computer programs.
• Experience in healthcare with one-on-one patient interaction.

Responsibilities

• Perform activities associated with inventory maintenance in satellites and dispensing areas including emergency drug supplies.
• Review pharmacy medication inventory for expired medications.
• Maintain medication inventory levels according to established par levels when available.
• Manage inpatient Epic In-Baskets including printing labels for missing medications, determining the amount of medication required to prepare the intended dose, preparing and/or packaging medications; preparing the label; documentation of activities and printing the discharge patient list and removing their medication from the patient care unit.
• Deliver medications to patient care areas; return medications from patient care areas that are no longer needed.
• Ensure that medication security is maintained when working in the patient care unit medication rooms.
• Maintain accurate controls and security regarding controlled substances both in and out of the pharmacy area, including inventory records.
• Generate, review and maintain appropriate records related to medication distribution and dispensing.
• Utilize equipment including laminar flow hoods, label printers, packaging and compounding equipment and automated dispensing systems.
• Maintains cleanliness of BSC and other equipment and the clean room per procedures.
• Completes quality assurance activities and quality control records for steril e compounding processes.
• Maintain competencies in proper sterile product preparation.
• Utilize aseptic technique when preparing sterile products including handwashing, garbing, proper handling and airflow awareness in clean room facility.
• Compound sterile products including anti-neoplastic drugs in bulk and single doses using aseptic technique.
• Maintain handling of hazardous medications and waste.
• Package and compound non-sterile products in bulk and single doses.
• Conduct monthly inspections of patient care areas.
• Assist with training of pharmacy students and new technicians; may supervise students.
• Perform narcotics and controlled substances inventories; order supplies and review documentation.
