Hy-Vee, Inc. is seeking a Pharmacy Technician, Certified to join our Pharmacy department in Ottumwa, IA.

This hourly role supports pharmacists in prescription processing, insurance billing, customer service, and inventory management, while upholding HIPAA and confidentiality standards. Responsibilities include assisting with dispensing, handling insurance claims, maintaining patient information, and participating in vaccine administration where legally permitted.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician through a certified national program required; continuing education to maintain license active.
• Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy clerk preferred.
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines, as required by law.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and learning their names.
• Handle customer inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's expertise.
• Accept new written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests under supervising pharmacist.
• Contact doctors' offices to take or request refill prescriptions as needed.
• Gather and maintain accurate patient information required to prepare prescriptions.
• Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing.
• Prepare and affix labels to prescription containers and prepare prescriptions to be mailed.
• Prepare and submit insurance claims and assist with third-party billing.
• File prescriptions after dispensing and report medication errors.
• Order, check in, stock pharmacy supplies and log invoices.
• Perform cash transactions accurately.
• Administer vaccines as allowed by law, with required certification where applicable.
• Maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy and dispensing area.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information per HIPAA.
• Adhere to all statutes and regulations pertaining to a pharmacy technician.
• Work with co-workers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
