Job summary

Hy-Vee's Certified Pharmacy Technician role supports pharmacists in preparing and dispensing prescription medications with accuracy and care. You'll assist with prescription processing, insurance billing, customer service, and inventory management in a fast-paced retail pharmacy.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Licensed Pharmacy Technician certification required; continuing education to keep license active.
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines, as required by law.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and learning their names.
• Handle customer inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's expertise and judgment.
• Accept new written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests.
• Contact doctor's offices to take or request refill prescriptions as needed.
• Gather and maintain accurate patient information required to prepare prescriptions.
• Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing.
• Prepare and affix labels to prescription containers and prepare prescriptions to be mailed.
• Submit insurance claims and assist with third-party insurance billing.
• File prescriptions after dispensing and report medication errors.
• Order, check in, and stock pharmacy supplies and log invoices.
• Perform cash transactions accurately.
• Administer vaccines as allowed by law, with required certification where applicable.
• Maintain pharmacy and dispensing area cleanliness.
• Maintain confidentiality of patients' private information per HIPAA.
• Adhere to all pharmacy regulations and Hy-Vee policies.
• Work as part of a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
