Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician, under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist and in accordance with all State and Federal laws, assists with the selection, procurement, storage, preparation, distribution, record keeping, and financial reconciliation of medications dispensed to patients of St. Elizabeth Healthcare. Adheres to ICARE and AIDET principles, demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and staff, regardless of cultural background.
Job Description:
- Provide excellent customer service through interactions with doctors, nurses, and patients. Answer queries or direct calls appropriately. Process Epic messages accurately and timely. Consistently exhibit ICARE and AIDET principles.
- Assist pharmacists in dispensing medications accurately and promptly, including filling medication bins, labels, restocking Pyxis stations, and ancillary departments.
- Ensure timely receipt and delivery of medication-related information and products. Make rounds as needed. Properly distribute medications, including controlled substances and life-saving medications, and process ADT (Admissions, Discharges, and Transfers).
- Participate in Process Improvement initiatives and comply with Infection Control and Safety policies to enhance patient care and outcomes.
- Verify expiration dates on medications in Pyxis stations, rotate stock, and assist with monthly inventory cycle counts. Process returns after checking expiration dates.
- Begin sterile compounding training, including medial fill and fingertip testing, under supervision, using aseptic techniques for medication compounding.
- Prepare oral syringe medications for critically ill infants in the NICU where applicable.
- Meet departmental inventory management goals using the inventory system effectively.
- Participate in departmental meetings, educational sessions, and communication initiatives to support career development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
- High School diploma or GED
- Registered with the State Board where practicing
- National Certification (PTCB or NHA) or active Intern license
Specialized Knowledge:
- Typing / Computer Keyboarding
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with MS Office
- Understanding of Metric System and Pharmacy Calculations
- IV Admixture Experience
Experience:
- Previous hospital pharmacy technician experience preferred.
