Job summary

University of Kansas is seeking Personal Trainers for Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center on the Lawrence campus. You will guide clients through progressive training programs, assess mobility, and support health and fitness goals for a diverse KU community.

Role emphasizes safety, clear communication, and accurate record-keeping, with CPT/ACE/NCCA certification and CPR/AED compliance required. Expect on-site duties, with occasional events and staff meetings.

Qualifications

  • CPR/AED certification with in-person skills assessment or willingness to obtain within 4 weeks.
  • CPT certification exam via an NCCA-accredited program within 6 months of hire or currently certified.
  • Experience using cardiovascular and resistance training equipment (selectorized machines, plate-loaded, free weights).
  • Student hourly role requires averaging 6 hours of work per week.
  • Complete concussion training within 4 weeks of employment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication as shown in materials/interview.
  • Ability to lift 45 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Define, lead, and instruct clients through progressive training programs including mobility and cardio components.
  • Develop safe training plans and monitor client technique to mitigate risk.
  • Document session dates, times, and client visits; ensure packages/sessions are billed.
  • Attend staff meetings and assist with events as needed.
