Position type and expected hours of work
- We have both full and part positions available with varied hours based on business needs.
- Typical hours for a personal trainer may start as early as 5am on weekdays and end around 9pm. Weekend shifts are approximately 7am to 1pm.
Note: THE FITNESS INDUSTRY IS NOT A 9-5 JOB. Hours can vary and are based on the client and the club's availability.
Pay Structure
This is a performance‑based position. Pay includes hourly rates, commissions, and bonuses. You are rewarded on your own merit, and your ability to continually grow your client base is what makes you successful! The more you grow your client base, the more you make – more hours, higher commissions, and larger bonuses.

What You’ll Do
- Establish a personal training client base. A personal trainer's main job is to continually grow their own base of clients.
- Deliver safe, professional, exciting, and comprehensive personal training programs to ensure clients are satisfied with their workout program and remain motivated to attain their fitness goals.
- Track your clients' progress to ensure they are achieving their goals. Client information is required to be tracked and stored safely and securely in URGE's database, and includes availability, workout programs you develop, fitness goals, injuries/limitations, and basic health information such as body fat, weight, and BMI.
- Maintain knowledge and promote URGE FITNESS programs, services, and products.
- Be outgoing and creative with marketing yourself to the membership base, including the club's social media page, walking the floor, engaging with customers, courtesy calls to members, contributing to email marketing, etc.
- Coaches are required to conduct the following types of fitness sessions: 1on1 sessions, mobility/stretch sessions, youth fitness programs (1on1 and group settings for children 5 and up), semiprivate sessions (up to 4 people), large group sessions (up to 20 people), and boxing (will be URGE certified and trained).
You will be scheduled for a combination of classes, admin time, and open availability to train 1on1 clients. Classes and scheduled admin time are delivered by URGE management.
What You’ll Need
- Ability to build relationships with members.
- Excellent customer service and promotional skills; energetic, enthusiastic, and motivational.
- Extensive knowledge of fitness, cardiovascular training, nutrition, and program design.
- Demonstrate exercises and adjust machine weights, free weights, and cardiovascular equipment.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to operate a computer and Microsoft Office software (Word and Excel).
- Reliable form of transportation (public transportation not included).
Uniform Requirements
- Must be willing and able to purchase an "URGE COACH" shirt through the company's website prior to employment beginning (approx. $25‑$30 per shirt). Reimbursement may be offered and will be discussed during the interview process.
- Must wear black, long workout pants.
- Must wear sneakers.
- Employee must provide their own method of counting/tracking time during sessions (stopwatch or smartwatch). Cell phone is not authorized to track time during classes and sessions.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid and up‑to‑date CPR/AED certification required prior to employment beginning.
- Nationally accredited personal training certification.
- Four‑year degree in exercise science, sports medicine, or other related field is a bonus.
- One year personal training experience preferred.
- Program design experience preferred.

- Lifting requirements are 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
Work Environment
- This job operates in a health club environment.
- This position routinely deals with club employees, customers, and vendors.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones.
- This is a high‑paced environment. You will need to multitask and engage with multiple customers at once.
- Shifts may be anywhere from 35+ hours without a break. Employees must be comfortable working these shifts continuously without needing a break to be eligible for employment.
