Banner University Medical Center Tucson is seeking a Certified Patient Care Assistant to join our Cardiac Progressive Care Unit.
The Cardiothoracic Intermediate Care Unit (6EW) is a unit specializing in the care of adult post-surgical cardio-thoracic patients. The department is a 24-bed cardiac/thoracic progressive care unit. Our patient population typically consists of post-surgical patients after cardiac or thoracic surgery. We also have several specialty patient populations on our unit including heart transplants, lung transplant, and left-ventricular assist devices. Given the surgical nature of our unit, our PCAs are vital in caring for these patients to prevent post-surgical complications. We currently have 13 other team members in this role.
In addition, the patient population consists of those recovering from the standard coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) and valve replacements to the cutting-edge minimally invasive robot-assisted bypass and lung resection. Some of the surgical cases you will care for include those recovering from heart and lung transplant, thoracotomy, major resections for cancer of the lungs and esophagus, complex aortic surgery, and minimally invasive thoracic surgery.

POSITION SUMMARY: This position provides routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall patient plan of care. This position is responsible for ongoing patient data collection and documentation in the medical records and provides a variety of unit support functions which contribute to the overall efficient operation of the nursing unit/department.
CORE FUNCTIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Current BLS certification is required. Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of practice is required for new hires and transfers. Requires skills and abilities typically attained with 1 year of medical clerical experience; preferably in a hospital or physician office setting. Must possess excellent organizational skills and effective human relations and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: In Arizona, the Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure is preferred. Recent healthcare experience preferred. Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program is preferred.
