Job summary

Hanger Clinic in Greensboro, NC is seeking a Prosthetics and Orthotics clinician to evaluate patients, design devices, and collaborate with physicians on treatment options. You will select materials, take casts, fabricate and fit devices, and provide follow-up care to optimize patient outcomes.

The role requires board certification (ABC/BOC) or ABC-eligibility, valid license where required, and the ability to manage documentation and training for staff.

Qualifications

  • Board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics (ABC/BOC) or ABC board-eligibility.
  • Valid driver's license and driving record meeting policy standards.
  • In states with licensure, ability to obtain and maintain licensure.
  • Candidates with at least 5 years of supervised prosthetics/orthotics experience may be considered.
  • Strong understanding of biomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology.
  • Thorough understanding of componentry and its reliability.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients and analyze needs for prosthetic and/or orthotic services.
  • Collaborate with physicians and recommend treatment options.
  • Formulate designs for prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.
  • Select materials, take cast measurements, perform model modifications and layouts.
  • Fabricate, fit, and perform static and dynamic alignments.
  • Evaluate devices on patients and adjust for fit, function, medical efficacy, and quality.
  • Instruct patients in the use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.
  • Identify and reconcile device issues to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Provide follow-up with patients and physicians.
  • Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals.
  • Manage materials, quality, performance, costs, and operational/financial performance.
  • Meet with physicians, case managers, and referral sources to review services and develop business relationships.
  • Plan and implement strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets.
  • Maintain detailed clinical notes in patient records.
  • Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians when needed.
  • Assist other clinical staff and administrative staff with reimbursement activities.
  • Follow safety, Medicare, governmental, bloodborne pathogen, and OSHA requirements.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Potentially perform on-call or hospital calls and float between Hanger Clinic locations.

Job description

Requirements
  • Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC), or a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics (or foreign equivalent) and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics
  • Valid driver's license and driving record within Hanger's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures standards
  • In states where licensure is required, ability to obtain and maintain state licensure may be required
  • Candidates not certified or board-eligible may be considered with at least 5 years of demonstrated past experience providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under supervision of a certified clinician
  • Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology
  • Thorough understanding of componentry and its suitability and reliability for specific uses
  • Thorough understanding of medical terminology
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers
  • Active listening, reading, and comprehension skills
  • Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options
  • Interpersonal, teamwork, organizational, time management, and planning skills
  • Ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques and lift 50 pounds independently
  • Ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach constantly during the workday
  • Adequate near and distant visual acuity
  • Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions
  • Ability to push wheeled equipment
  • Fine motor skills for scheduling and preparing patients, equipment, and supplies
  • Ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours in accordance with state labor laws
