Job summary

Hanger Clinic is seeking a skilled prosthetics and orthotics clinician to provide comprehensive patient care for adults and children, collaborating with physicians to evaluate needs and recommend treatment options.

You will design prosthetic and orthotic devices, perform casts, alignments, and fittings, and educate patients on device use while ensuring safety, quality, and reimbursement processes.

Qualifications

• Candidates must hold ABC or BOC board certification or be eligible.
• A valid driver's license and driving record per policy.
• State licensure as required by the state.
• Experience demonstrating prosthetic/orthotic services under supervision if not certified.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic patient care for adults and children.
• Collaborate with physicians to evaluate patient needs and recommend treatment options.
• Examine and evaluate patients in relation to disease and functional loss.
• Formulate designs for prosthetic and orthotic devices.
• Select materials, take cast measurements, and perform model modifications.

Job description

• Provide comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic patient care for adult and pediatric patients
• Collaborate with physicians to evaluate patient needs and recommend treatment options
• Examine and evaluate patients in relation to disease and functional loss
• Formulate designs for prosthetic and orthotic devices
• Select materials, make cast measurements, perform model modifications and layouts
• Perform fitting, including static and dynamic alignments
• Evaluate devices on patients and adjust fit, function, medical efficacy and quality
• Instruct patients in use of prosthetic and orthotic devices
• Identify and reconcile device issues to ensure patient satisfaction
• Provide follow-up with patients and physicians
• Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals
• Manage materials, quality and performance processes while balancing costs and operational/financial performance
• Meet with physicians, case managers and referral sources to review services and develop business relationships
• Plan and implement strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets with management
• Provide detailed clinical notes in patient records
• Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians as needed
• Assist other clinical staff
• Provide information to administrative staff for reimbursement activities
• Follow safety, Medicare, governmental, bloodborne and OSHA requirements
• Perform other duties or special projects as assigned
• May perform on-call or hospital calls, or float between multiple Hanger Clinic locations

Requirements

• Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC), or a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics, or the foreign equivalent, and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics
• A valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
• In states where licensure is required, the ability to obtain and maintain state licensure may be required as well
• Candidates certified in one discipline may see patients in their certified discipline while completing residency in the other discipline
• Candidates who are not certified or board-eligible may be considered with at least 5 years of demonstrated past experience providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under the supervision of a certified clinician
• Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology
• Thorough understanding of componentry and its suitability and reliability for specific uses
• Thorough understanding of medical terminology
• Effective oral and written communication skills for accurate, concise, organized presentations and reports
• Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers on patient-care objectives
• Active listening, reading and comprehension skills for analyzing reports, charts and correspondence
• Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options
• Ability to build professional relationships with physicians, therapists and patients
• Ability to work effectively as a team member
• Effective organizational, time management and planning skills
• Ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques and lift 50 pounds alone
• Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a work day
• Sufficient near and distant visual acuity
• Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions
• Ability to push wheeled equipment throughout the facility
• Fine motor skills for scheduling and preparing patients, equipment and supplies
• Ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours in accordance with state labor laws
