Job summary

UofL Health is seeking a Certified Surgical Technician for the Shelbyville Hospital OR. This part-time, on-site role supports the surgical team as a scrub member, ensuring aseptic technique and efficient case turnover in a busy OR setting.

Under RN or LPN supervision, you will pass instruments, track counts, handle specimens, and participate in instrument reprocessing. This position emphasizes patient safety and high-quality aseptic care.

Qualifications

• Ensure sterile field throughout procedures.
• Assist surgeons by passing instruments, sponges and sutures; count items at intervals.
• Handle surgical specimens as directed by surgeon.
• Prepare OR and assist with room turnover following cases.
• Maintain instrument reprocessing and storage per procedures.
• Earn CEUs to maintain CST certification.

Responsibilities

• Maintain aseptic technique and sterile field in the operative area.
• Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon and assistants; count needles, sponges, and instruments.
• Receive and manage surgical specimens as directed by the surgeon.
• Prepare OR for cases and assist with turnover and setup.
• Reprocess and store instruments and equipment after procedures.
• Accumulate CEUs to maintain certification.
