Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) PRN to support both acute and outpatient settings under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist. You will contribute to treatment plans and monitor patient progress.

You will perform patient care under supervision, document outcomes, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to promote safe, effective therapy and timely discharge planning for diverse patient populations.

Qualifications

  • Requires current Texas licensure (COTA) and BLS certification.
  • Graduation from an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • One year of COTA experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care under the supervision of a licensed OT.
  • Utilize resources to deliver skilled OT activities.
  • Follow prescribed patient care plans written by the OT.
  • Assess age-specific needs and organize patient care safely and efficiently.
  • Document therapy interventions and patient progress accurately.
  • Communicate care needs and discharge planning with the OT and team.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Support patient/family education based on individual needs.

Job Summary And Qualifications

Provides care under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist for patients that are acutely ill or have medical needs which result in mobility and activities of daily living deficits. Monitors the effectiveness of the treatment plan, and recommends needed changes. Serves as a liaison between the patient and the interdisciplinary team and provides timely, safe, and cost-effective therapy. A Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant may treat patients in either the in-patient or the out-patient setting.

What you will do in this role
  • Patient care: Utilizes resources necessary to provide skilled occupational therapy activities.
  • Provides care under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
  • Follows through with the prescribed patient plan of care as written by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Demonstrates skills appropriate for specific clinical area and patient population including age-specific needs
  • Organizes and completes patient care in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
  • Reports and discusses potential needs for care modifications with the supervising Occupational Therapist to promote optimal patient progress towards therapeutic goals.
  • Reports any adverse response to patient’s Occupational Therapist, patient’s physician, or other appropriate hospital personnel.
  • Provides proper documentation of occupational therapy interventions.
  • Documents every therapy encounter and any adverse responses/follow-ups in the patient medical record.
  • Regularly submits information on patient’s progress to Occupational Therapist.
  • Makes appropriate patient interventions and evaluates patients’ responses based on individual patient needs and expected patient outcomes.
  • Accurately assesses discharge condition, patient needs, and/or response to treatment modalities.
  • Provides patient/family education based on patient needs, developmental level, cognitive ability, and ability to learn.
  • Identifies, assesses, and documents patient response to occupational therapy interventions.
  • Works closely with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Coordinates and communicates with other clinical disciplines to identify and meet the needs of the patient in preparation for discharge.
  • Acts as an integral interdisciplinary team member to provide safe, timely, and cost effective patient care.
  • Works with the interdisciplinary team on quality improvement, in-services, orientation, and education.
  • Demonstrates professional practice and conduct at all times.
What qualifications you will need
  • License / Certifications / Requirements: Requires current Texas licensure (COTA), and Basic Life Support certification.
  • Education: Requires graduation from an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Experience: One year of COTA experience is preferred.
