LifeSpan Therapy in New Albany, IN is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to support licensed therapists in delivering high-quality rehabilitative care to residents in our community facilities. This PRN role focuses on enhancing daily living and work skills through tailored activities and exercises.

You will document treatment progress, follow established plans, and collaborate with a compassionate team to promote independence and safe, effective therapy across settings.

Qualifications

  • Certification as a COTA from an accredited program.
  • Active Indiana state licensure as a COTA.
  • Indiana Operator's license required.
  • Basic computer literacy for resident documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist therapists in implementing individualized treatment plans.
  • Perform objective tests under supervision of the OTR.
  • Provide direct resident care with exercises and modalities.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment for therapy sessions.
  • Occasionally travel to other locations for coverage.
  • Document treatments clearly and promptly with the therapy team.
  • Educate residents and families on therapeutic techniques and home programs.

About the Role

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) at LifeSpan Therapy plays a vital role in supporting occupational therapists to deliver high-quality rehabilitative care to residents . This position focuses on assisting patients in regaining and improving their daily living and work skills through therapeutic activities and exercises. The COTA collaborates closely with the occupational therapy team to implement treatment plans tailored to individual resident needs, ensuring progress toward functional independence. Additionally, the role involves monitoring resident responses, documenting treatment outcomes, and maintaining a safe and hygienic environment. Ultimately, the COTA contributes significantly to enhancing res i d ents' quality of life by promoting recovery and adaptation in various settings.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist occupational therapists in implementing individualized treatment plans designed to improve res i d ents' functional abilities.
  • Contributes to the evaluation process by performing objective test(s), under the supervision of the OTR.
  • Provide direct resident care including therapeutic exercises, activities, and modalities under supervision.
  • Assists with ordering and maintaining supplies as needed.
  • If needed, occasionally travels to other locations to provide therapy coverage during changes in demand or service delivery .
  • Maintain clear and timely documentation of treatments and communicate effectively with the therapy team and res i d ents.
  • Prepare and organize therapy equipment and treatment areas to facilitate efficient therapy sessions.
  • Alerts Therapist to resident progress and any need to update or reevaluate the effectiveness of the treatment plan.
  • Educate res i d ents and their families on therapeutic techniques and home exercise programs to support ongoing recovery.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) from an accredited program.
  • Current and valid state licensure or certification to practice as a COTA.
  • Must have a valid Indiana Operator's license.
  • Basic computer literacy to document resident records and communicate within electronic health systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with res i d ents, families, and healthcare teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in outpatient rehabilitation or long-term care settings.
  • Additional training or certification in specialized therapeutic techniques or modalities.
  • Continuing education in occupational therapy best practices and resident safety.
