Responsibilities

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in the rehabilitation and care of patients with physical, mental, or emotional conditions. The main goal is to help individuals develop, recover, improve, and maintain skills necessary for daily living and working. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Patient Care Execution: Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, implement therapeutic plans, teach patients to use adaptive equipment, guide exercises, and engage patients in activities essential for their recovery.
  2. Activity and Program Planning: Assist in planning and selecting therapeutic activities tailored to each patient's needs and interests, aligning with the goals set by the occupational therapist.
  3. Progress Monitoring: Observe, document, and report patient progress, and adjust therapy interventions as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
  4. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families about therapy processes, adaptive equipment, and home modifications, providing clear instructions to support ongoing recovery at home.
Qualifications

  • Current license/certification in the state of practice
