Responsibilities

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in rehabilitating and caring for patients with diverse physical, mental, or emotional conditions. The main goal of a COTA is to assist individuals in developing, recovering, improving, and maintaining skills necessary for daily living and working. Key responsibilities include:

1. Patient Care Execution: Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, execute therapeutic plans, teach patients to use adaptive equipment, guide exercises, and facilitate activities essential for recovery and improvement.
2. Activity and Program Planning: Assist in planning and selecting therapeutic activities tailored to each patient's needs and interests, aligning with goals set by the occupational therapist.
3. Progress Monitoring: Monitor and document patient progress, report changes to the occupational therapist, and adjust interventions to ensure continuous improvement.
4. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families about therapy processes, adaptive equipment, and home modifications, providing clear instructions to support ongoing recovery and independence at home.

Qualifications

• Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
• Current license/certification in the state of practice
