Responsibilities

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in the rehabilitation and care of patients with various physical, mental, or emotional conditions. The main goal of a COTA is to assist individuals in developing, recovering, improving, and maintaining skills necessary for daily living and working. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Patient Care Execution: Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, execute therapeutic plans by teaching patients to use adaptive equipment, guiding exercises, and engaging them in activities essential for recovery and improvement.
  2. Activity and Program Planning: Contribute to planning and selecting therapeutic activities tailored to each patient's needs and interests, aligning with the goals set by the occupational therapist.
  3. Progress Monitoring: Regularly observe, document, and report patient progress, adjusting therapy interventions as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
  4. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families about the therapy process, adaptive equipment, and home modifications, providing clear instructions to support ongoing recovery and independence.
Qualifications
  • Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
  • Current license/certification in the state of practice
