Job summary

Children's Hospital Colorado seeks a Clinical Assistant to support patients and families in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD). The CA assists with personal care, comfort, and daily living activities, and supports nursing staff during diagnostic procedures and treatments in a 48-bed inpatient unit.

Night shift (6:45am–7:15am) is required, with weekend shifts and holiday coverage as part of the schedule.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Six (6) months of experience preferred.
  • Proof of successful completion of health assessment and nursing foundation courses may be considered in lieu of CNA/MA/EMT designation.
  • Designation as CNA/MA/EMT is required; BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Attends to patients' personal hygiene and daily living needs; provides comfort and assisting with grooming, bathing, feeding, toileting, transferring.
  • Checks vital signs, weighs patients, applies creams/ointments, dressings and collects specimens.
  • Transports patients and communicates needs to healthcare providers; documents actions and reports observations to the medical team.
  • Acts as a conduit between patients and providers by recording and communicating issues to the medical team.

Job Overview

The Clinical Assistant (CA) assists patients and families by supporting personal hygiene and daily living needs. The CA provides comfort, transportation, and vital sign monitoring. In addition, the CA supports and assists nursing personnel and other providers in diagnostic procedures and technical treatments and functions as a member of the healthcare team.

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) is a 48-bed inpatient unit specializing in the care of patients with cancer, blood disorders, immunodeficiencies, and genetic disorders who require hospitalization for their treatment of their diseases or conditions. Treatments include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, cellular therapy, and radioactive therapy for oncologic and non-oncologic diagnoses.

Department: The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD)

Status: Full Time (3-12hr shifts per week)

Shift: Nights (6:45am - 7:15am)

Weekends: CNA's must schedule at least 6 weekend shifts in an 8-week period. Fri/Sat/Sun nights are counted for night shift.

Holidays: 1 winter holiday 1 summer holiday will be assigned a holiday group.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Attends to the individual needs of patients, which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, transferring, providing comfort and communicating patient needs with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Performs various tasks as assigned, including checking vital signs, weighing patients, applying creams/ointments, applying/changing dressings and collecting specimens.
  • Meets patient needs by utilizing resources and materials; transporting patients; answering patients' call lights and requests; and reporting observations of the patient to healthcare team members.
  • Serves as a conduit between patients and other healthcare providers by recording and communicating all issues to medical team members.
  • Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
  • Stores and prepares rooms and medical equipment for patient and healthcare team member use.
  • Participates in departmental committees and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Degrees
    • High School diploma or GED
  • Experience
    • Six (6) months of experience preferred.
  • Equivalency
    • Proof of successful completion of health assessment and nursing foundation courses, in addition to basic medical/surgical clinical rotation in an accredited nursing program may be considered in lieu of designation as a CNA, MA and/or EMT.
  • Licenses & Certifications
    • Designation as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA), and/or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is required
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association is required.
Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $19.18 to $28.77

Expected Range: $20.25 to $28.77
