Position Summary

Under supervision of the designated Wexford Health manager and clinical oversight from the Director of Nursing, Registered Nurses, Medical Director, and/or IDOC personnel, the CNA assists nursing staff with daily operations.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist inmates with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing, bed making, shaving, dressing, and related tasks.
  • Check vital signs, height, and weight; maintain records of fluid intake and output; report on inmate conditions.
  • Follow infection control practices and emergency protocols.
  • Assist inmates in wheelchairs, on stretchers, and with ambulation.
  • Promote hydration and elimination among patients.
  • Assist with ambulation, turning, repositioning, and range of motion activities.
  • Clean bedside units, workrooms, and sterilize equipment; assist with washing and sterilizing equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and records.
  • Assist with medications as ordered by a physician, when applicable.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to call lights.
  • Receive training in direct care support techniques.
  • Work under close supervision; work is reviewed via inspections and observations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of inmate records.
  • Approach changes positively.
  • Suggest improvements to work conditions.
  • Accept constructive criticism in stressful situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned after training.

Job Requirements

Minimum qualifications include:

  • No travel required
  • No licensing required
  • Nursing Assistant certificate
  • Current CPR certification from accepted organizations
  • 0-2 years of experience
  • Completion of an accredited Nursing Assistant program
