Job Summary

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking an experienced Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join our Ambulatory Clinical Care operation. The ambulatory group consists of 12 pediatric subspecialty divisions and service lines. This position provides patient care at the direction of a clinic manager and medical assistant supervisors. The CNA provides assistive care to patients; facilitates the efficient delivery of patient care; supports the professional role of licensed staff and providers; offers support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to patients; and assists with scribing and clerical functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker.

Additional Details

University of Utah Pediatric clinic locations are primarily housed in Primary Children's Hospital outpatient clinics in Salt Lake City, Riverton, and Lehi. Incumbents must be willing and able to commute to either location.

Positions are designed to provide growth and professional development opportunities, including promotions within a defined career ladder.

This position is part-time, 20 hours per week. Regular and punctual attendance is required.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Act as a medical scribe to assigned providers, including recording interactions, assisting with clerical duties, and documenting in electronic health records.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures by recording vital signs and medical history.
  • Educate and teach patients/families as delegated.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations.
  • Report patient concerns and changes in condition to a licensed staff member.
  • Perform CLIA Waved Lab tests and report results.
  • Assist with procedures, treatments, and interventions, including EKGs.
  • Monitor and clean examination rooms and equipment, restock supplies, and report repairs.
  • Schedule appointments and assist with clerical functions.
  • Complete mandatory education on infection prevention, safety, CPR, and equipment usage.
  • Assist with patient and family education and transportation as directed.
Care Coordination
  • Schedule, coordinate, and monitor appointments, tests, and treatments.
  • Maintain and accurately document medical records.
  • Use computer applications effectively in the office setting.
Requirements
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system, to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Current certification as a Nursing Assistant with the State of Utah, or completion of initial clinical training and enrollment in an approved nursing program, or successful completion of RN program.
  • If enrolled in a nursing program, must obtain RN license within three months of completion; if not, must obtain CNA certification.
  • Must meet immunization requirements per CDC standards and hospital policy.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, including lifting and moving patients or objects up to 100 pounds, and exposure to infectious diseases.
  • Knowledge of lifespan growth and development, and ability to assess patient data and provide appropriate care.

Position involves working in a healthcare setting with physical demands and exposure risks. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to provide age-appropriate care and demonstrate knowledge of clinical principles.
