Overview

Southwood Children's Behavioral Healthcare in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania is dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive mental health services to children and adolescents. Our team of professionals is committed to creating a supportive and therapeutic environment for our young patients and their families.

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and adolescents in a behavioral health setting. As a CNA, you will provide essential care and support to our patients, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Come join the direct care team at our residential treatment facility! We serve residents with developmental delays and on the autism spectrum at this site, so care experience with this patient population is preferred.

We are hiring for full-time, part-time, and PRN positions for all shifts:

• 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
• 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm
• 11:00 pm - 7:30 am

New pay scale approved in 2025 – starting at $20.00 / hour

Responsibilities

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

Provide medical or therapeutic care under the direction of nursing or clinical staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensure the well-being of patients and provide a positive, supportive, and structured environment, under the direction of charge nurse or supervisor.
2. Complete patient observation rounds timely. Observation may be assigned every 15 minutes, within reach of the patient and/or 1:1 patient care.
3. Ensure patient rooms are clean and uncluttered.
4. Assist with transferring, lifting, raising, or turning patients.
5. Obtain patient’s vital signs, height, and weight as assigned and ensure accurate documentation.
6. Identify self to patient and visitors promptly and respond to patient requests quickly.
7. Engage with patients in activities and interactions designed to encourage achievement of treatment goals.
8. Respond to distressed patients in a non-threatening manner and attempt to understand the source of distress.
9. Apply de-escalation techniques to help manage patients’ emotions, behavior, and participation in treatment, and assist with seclusion and restraints when necessary.
10. Monitor behavioral improvements and reinforce these behaviors. Report changes and responses to treatment by communicating with the team. Significant changes are reported to the nurse immediately.
11. Reinforce skills patients learn from nurses, physicians, and therapists that promote improved physical and mental wellness.
12. Ensure comfort, dignity, privacy, and perform related CNA duties such as feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, moving patients, or changing linens.
13. Provide transfer or transportation for patients or coordinate transportation with appropriate staff, as required.
14. Adherence to work schedule and overall attendance.
15. Follow established policies, procedures, and standards for patient care.
16. Clean the unit as assigned by professional staff, including equipment such as beds, IV poles, and wheelchairs.
17. Document timely, accurate, and appropriate clinical information in patient medical records.
18. Collaborate with other staff in working with the population of the facility to treat and rehabilitate.
19. Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards patients and staff. Address and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.
20. Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, family members, guests, and other healthcare team members.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Additional education or training resulting in certification as a nursing assistant per state requirements required.
• Previous experience in behavioral health settings and working with the population of the facility preferred.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

• Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or license, per state requirements.
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by the facility).
• First aid may be required based on state or facility.
