Overview

Southwood Children's Behavioral Healthcare in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania is dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive mental health services to children and adolescents. Our team of professionals is committed to creating a supportive and therapeutic environment for our young patients and their families.

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and adolescents in a behavioral health setting. As a CNA, you will provide essential care and support to our patients, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Come join the direct care team at our residential treatment facility! We serve residents with developmental delays and on the autism spectrum at this site so care experience with this patient population is preferred.

We are hiring for full-time, part-time, and PRN positions for all shifts:

  1. 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
  2. 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm
  3. 11:00 pm - 7:30 am

New pay scale approved in 2025 – starting at $20.00 / hour

Responsibilities

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

Provide medical or therapeutic care under the direction of nursing or clinical staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ensure the well-being of patients and provide a positive, supportive, and structured environment, under the direction of charge nurse or supervisor.
  2. Patient safety is addressed through timely observation rounds, which may be assigned every 15 minutes or 1:1 patient care.
  3. Ensure patient rooms are clean and uncluttered.
  4. Assist with transferring, lifting, raising, or turning patients.
  5. Obtain patient’s vital signs, height, and weight as assigned and ensure accurate documentation.
  6. Identify self to patients and visitors promptly and respond to patient requests quickly.
  7. Engage with patients in activities designed to encourage achievement of treatment goals.
  8. Respond to distressed patients in a non-threatening manner and attempt to understand the source of distress.
  9. Apply de-escalation techniques to help manage patients’ emotions and behavior, and assist with seclusion and restraints when necessary.
  10. Monitor behavioral improvements and reinforce these behaviors, reporting changes to the team and significant changes to the nurse immediately.
  11. Reinforce skills patients learn from nurses, physicians, and therapists that promote improved physical and mental wellness.
  12. Ensure comfort, dignity, privacy, and perform related CNA duties such as feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, moving patients, or changing linens.
  13. Provide transfer or transportation for patients or coordinate transportation with appropriate staff members, as required.
  14. Adhere to work schedule and overall attendance.
  15. Follow established policies, procedures, and standards for patient care.
  16. Clean unit as assigned by professional staff, including equipment such as beds, IV poles, and wheelchairs.
  17. Document timely, accurate, and appropriate clinical information in patient medical records.
  18. Collaborate with other staff in working with the population of the facility to treat and rehabilitate.
  19. Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards customers at all times. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.
  20. Communicate clearly and effectively to patients, family members, guests, and other members of the healthcare team.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  1. Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Additional education or training resulting in certification as nursing assistant per state requirements required.
  3. Previous experience in a behavioral health setting and knowledge of working with the population of the facility preferred.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or license, per state requirements.
  2. CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
  3. First aid may be required based on state or facility.
