General Summary Of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Certified Nursing Assistant to join our team at Franklin Square Hospital! The ideal candidate will provide our patients with extraordinary patient care by demonstrating strong knowledge in the field.

This person will be a member of the patient-centered care team, providing direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse for assigned patients and their families/significant others. Responsibilities include assisting medical and nursing staff with procedures and tests, helping patients with ADLs, performing specimen collection, phlebotomy, EKG, and documenting in the health record. Duties may vary depending on the work area and patient needs.

Primary Duties

1. Assist patients with activities of daily living and personal hygiene, including bathing, mouth care, dressing, skin care, positioning, feeding, ambulation, toileting, and range of motion activities. Support patient mobilization and rehabilitation, transfer, and transportation.
2. Collect specimens, perform venipuncture/phlebotomy, obtain EKGs, and document patient intake/output. Record vital signs, height, weight, pulse oximetry, and other relevant data.
3. Perform routine treatments such as tube feedings, ostomy care, Foley catheter care, dressing changes, wound care, turning, positioning, postmortem care, and assist with traction, casts, splints, and exercise equipment.
4. Maintain patient comfort, privacy, confidentiality, and dignity. Assist with examinations, procedures, and patient education. Report changes in patient condition and ensure proper handoffs. Initiate CPR if needed.
5. Ensure cleanliness and safety of patient environment, including linen management, trash removal, and room cleaning. Transport patients and complete errands like delivering specimens and supplies.

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program.
• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the relevant authority.
• Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification preferred.
• Experience as a CNA and in healthcare settings preferred.

This position offers a hiring range of $17.5 - $28.73.
