Job summary

Maniilaq Association in Kotzebue, Alaska seeks a Certified Nurse’s Aide for our Long Term Care program. The role provides quality nursing care under supervision, following individual care plans and coordinating with the care team.

Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, reporting changes, and maintaining a compassionate, respectful environment for residents and families. Must meet CNA requirements and be able to work rotating shifts.

Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides quality care nursing to residents under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Tends to the residents needs while following the residents care plan in implementing specific procedures and treatments to programs and coordinates work with team members. Reports pertinent information to the licensed nurse. Assists the immediate supervisor with tasks to support program operations. Supports a dignified and caring atmosphere with residents, resident’s families, visitors and staff. Reports directly to the Long Term Care Director of Nursing or designee.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides quality nursing care to residents in an environment which promotes resident rights, dignity, freedom of choice, and their individuality while providing individualized attention and encouraging residents to maintain or attain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.

Understands and ensures care plans are followed and providing the charge nurse or other care planning staff with specific information, changes and observations of the residents’ needs and preferences.

Attends to the individual needs of residents including assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communicating, skin integrity, or other needs in keeping with the individuals’ care requirements and plan of care.

Provides care that maintains each resident’s skin integrity to prevent pressure ulcers, skin tears, and other damaged by changing incontinent residents, turning, repositioning immobile residents, and applying moisturizers to fragile skin.

Protects the personal belongings of each resident including eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, furnishings, jewelry, clothing, memorabilia, etc. Promptly reports missing items according to established policy.

Performs various tasks assigned by the charge nurse including vital signs, residents’ weights, applying creams/ointments, collecting specimens, as well as lifting, moving, and transporting clients, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention.

Responsible for keeping records documenting care provided or other information in keeping with department policies while performing all job responsibilities.

Puts into practice prescribed safety and infection control procedures including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated, and proper disposal of soiled materials.

Responsible for following universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.

Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with the resident, visitors, family’s peers, and supervisors.

Compliant with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.

Cooperates and works together with all co-workers, planning and completing job duties with minimal supervisory direction, utilizing appropriate judgment.

Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.

Recognizes, respects, and promotes the integration of traditional native values and customs into daily care and routines of the resident.

Attend the care plan meeting on assigned care plan review date.

Attends scheduled resident activities to provide personal assistance to when indicated.

Prepare the resident for foot care when attending Foot Care Specialist appointment.

Escort the resident to in house appointments to Outpatient, Dental, and or Optometry program.

Clean and disinfect wheelchairs, pressure reducing cushions, humidifiers and any other personal resident equipment on a weekly basis per schedule.

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must hold current Certified Nurse’s Aide certificate. Must obtain and maintain CPR certification. Must complete the food handler course upon hire. Three (3) months prior nursing aide experience preferred. Must be free from active tuberculosis. Must provide a criminal history statement and fingerprints, which show there is no history of crimes that would pose a current danger to residents. Ability to work rotating shifts required. Knowledge of Inupiaq language and culture preferred. Must be able to lift at least 60 pounds. Will be able to demonstrate ability to follow oral and written instructions.
