Maniilaq Association in Kotzebue, Alaska is seeking a Part-Time Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive care across medical/surgical, pediatric, obstetric, ambulatory and emergency settings. The RN will utilize the nursing process, monitor patients, teach families, document care, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality outcomes.

This role requires Alaska RN licensure and BLS, with ACLS/PALS training planned within 6 months.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Nursing from an accredited college.
• RN license in good standing and eligible for Alaska licensure.
• AHA BLS required; willing to obtain ACLS and PALS within 6 months.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand/walk for long periods.
• Maintain annual core competencies.

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs professional nursing duties in the care of adult and pediatric patients in medical/surgical, pediatric, obstetric, ambulatory and emergency room settings in the hospital and during medical evacuation situations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Initiates and utilizes the nursing process to meet the holistic needs of the patient and family while adhering to the professional standards set forth by American Nurses’ Association.
• Observes the patient's clinical condition: recognizes, identifies, and interprets serious and/or emergent situations while initiating appropriate nursing interventions.
• Develops and implements patient/family teaching programs based on mutually identified health care goals.
• Documents all observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures administered, and status of coordinated activities between nursing and other professional disciplines.
• Evaluates the patient’s plan of care and revises plan as needed.
• Safeguards the patient’s right to privacy by judiciously protecting information of a confidential manner.
• Understands the developmental needs of all patients throughout the continuum of life; is able to adjust care to these needs; and documentation reflects this understanding.
• Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual nursing judgments and actions.
• Provides guidance and leadership to other personnel in the form of in-services and orientation/preceptorship and participates in committee activities.
• Assumes charge nurse duties as assigned, including staffing, supervision and decision-making responsibilities.
• When qualified, volunteers to participate in emergency medevac procedures as needed.
• Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement activities.
• Utilizes incident and medication error reporting protocols per MHC policies.
• Participates in continuing education activities.
• Facilitates patient care across multiple disciplines, departments and other non-MHC agencies through referrals and other business operations.
• Stays alert to patient and staff safety needs at all times, and completes reports as needed in SQSS.
• Documents appropriate fields in Cerner and telemetry strips.
• Embraces MHC’s customer services model.

Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Associates degree in Nursing from an Accredited College.
• Must have RN license in good standing and be eligible to apply for an Alaska licensure as a Registered Nurse.
• AHA BLS required. Must be willing to get AHA ACLS and AHA PALS training within 6 months of hire.
• Must complete assigned Safety training within a year. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and spend long periods standing or walking.
• Must be able to maintain annual core competencies.
